Ken Meyer is a fourth generation beekeeper in a South Dakota family business that started participating in the hemp industry right after passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. His first experience was helping to pass hemp legislation in South Dakota that was good for hemp farmers and processors. Once growing hemp was legal in South Dakota, Ken's family business processed hemp flowers for CBD and CBG oil. Two years ago, the decision was made to forego processing hemp for cannabinoids and to pivot to contracting with farmers to grow hemp stalks for the business's new hemp decortication facility. Ken is responsible for working with contracted hemp farmers and for selling hemp hurd, hemp bast fiber, and hemp fines for the new hemp company, Complete Hemp Processing, founded by Ken, his brother JB Meyer, and his sister Melissa Shipley. In addition to his duties in the family honey bee and industrial hemp businesses, Ken serves as president of the South Dakota Industrial Hemp Association which has an advocacy membership in the U.S. Hemp Roundtable. Ken is an active member of the U.S. Hemp Building Association and Complete Hemp Processing is a member of the National Industrial Hemp Council of America (NIHC).
