Tommy Nahulu was raised in Hawai’i in his younger years, where his love for art began with his art teaching mother. Just before attending high school, his mother moved he and his sisters to Colorado where he attended and graduated from Denver East High as the Outstanding Senior Artist of 1978. He then went on to hone in on his artistic skills at Colorado Institute of Art that following year, and has been creating a variety of creative art projects since then. Though the majority of his work has been creating murals In Colorado, California, and Hawai’i, he continues to paint, draw, and design beyond the realms of big city walls. Last year he was commissioned to do a painting for Doug Fine’s book First Legal Harvest. His interest in Hemp, and involvement in last year’s NoCo Hemp Expo, has made him a new activist in the cultivation of hemp, and the production of hemp products.
