Dr. Paul Rushton is the Vice President of Plant Biotechnology of each of Botanical Genetics LLC and its publicly-traded parent company, 22nd Century Group, Inc. (NYSE MKT: XXII).  Dr. Rushton directs the cannabis research and is closely involved in all hemp/cannabis activities of Botanical Genetics and 22nd Century with a team of other experienced professionals, including sponsored research with major universities (such as the recently announced hemp and medical marijuana research and development collaboration with the University of Virginia), contract growing of the companies’ proprietary plants, processing of plants and extraction of active pharmaceutical ingredients for testing and research by medical schools and scientific partners, and the development of unique hemp and medical marijuana plants (such as the recently announced Zero-THC hemp).

Prior to joining Botanical Genetics and 22nd Century in 2015, Dr. Rushton served as an Associate Professor at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension Center in Dallas and at South Dakota State University, Department of Biology and Microbiology.  Prior to that time, he served as a Research Assistant Professor and Research Associate at the University of Virginia, Department of Biology.  Dr. Rushton was a Postdoctoral Fellow for a decade at the Max-Planck-Institute for Plant Breeding, Cologne, Germany.  Dr. Rushton holds a Master of Arts degree in Biochemistry from The University of Cambridge, United Kingdom and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Manchester University, United Kingdom.
